Buying Art

Never Gift Someone a Print, Here's Why!

Never Gift Someone a Print, Here's Why!

Have you ever wanted to purchase one of my prints as a gift for someone, but had no idea what to get? There are so many things to consider - the size, the image, the color of their existing décor, framed or unframed, their taste in art!

To take the headache and frustration out of your decision, I've added a new convenient option, but first let me tell you two stories.

The stories

I've recently had the pleasure of speaking with two customers who received my prints as gifts. The first is a bride who had included one of my prints in her wedding registry.

First off, I was very honored that she considered my work. I was really touched by this. Also, she was very specific about the image she wanted and its size, so the person who bought it had a stress-free experience.

"That was easy!"

The second customer though, went through a much different scenario 🤦🏿‍♂️ A friend from home (Dominica) bought him a print, and while he and his wife loved the gesture, their new print just did not suit its intended space.

The colors were off - the initial print is mostly rich forest green, with a hint of orange from the sunrise, compared with their neutral-toned living room. In addition, my standard museum-style canvas option did not sit well with the existing style of the room. A more traditional option was required.

Please note: I no longer offer Canvas prints and Framed Art prints for all my images (see image below). However I do have a collection of Limited Edition prints which are made using the world's best fine art paper (Sept. 2024)

This is where I happily stepped in! I worked directly with his wife and we came up with a customized solution to their problem - a traditionally framed photographic print of another image from my portfolio. With a few tweaks to the color of that new image, I was able to "tone it down" so that it fit nicely within their existing color theme.

Moral of the story

I shared this experience with you for two reasons:

  1. I love making customized orders for customers. As you probably know, I exclusively offer canvas prints via this website. However, I am open to requests for other print mediums and I'm especially willing to make edits to image to suit your tastes for color, crops and more.
  2. Gift cards make things easier for everyone. Had my gift cards been available at the time, the initial client could have simply purchased one online and sent the information (redemption code or QR code) to his friend either via email or printed copy. His friend's wife would then do the shopping herself and redeem the gift card during checkout.

It's a win-win situation!
